• By Uwe Dreissigacker •

Nowadays you can’t really have a worthwhile marketing campaign without incorporating one or more social media channels.

In 2017, there are around 2.5 billion social media users worldwide. Yes that’s billion with a ‘b’. That is the potential reach of any great marketing campaign that incorporates social media.

Coming up with an effective social media strategy will not only help expand your brand but will greatly enhance your marketing reach.

Have a look at 5 important things to consider when trying to create the perfect social media strategy for your business.

1. Target Demographic

How aware are you of your target market? Have you familiarized yourself with your target demographic and their social media habits? These are the questions you need to know to proceed any further with any social media strategy.

To make any marketing efforts worthwhile you need to know who to target and how you will go about doing it. In the case with social media, you have to be wholly aware of the channels your ideal consumer will be utilizing.

Take note on how and when your consumer would use social media. This will help you later down the road on focusing on which channels will be most effective for you to push content through and what time.

2. Set Goals

Goals are an important thing to have when doing anything in life which also includes implementing a viable social media strategy. Without goals, you will have a difficult time tracking the progress you make when working.

Focus on S.M.A.R.T. goals:

Specific – Be precise of what you want to accomplish.

Measurable – When creating goals, make sure you are able to measure and quantify your achievements.

Attainable – Goals should be within your grasp. Don’t focus on something you have no chance of getting done in a reasonable amount of time.

Relevant – Make sure the task you are accomplishing or need to accomplish are relevant to your company’s big picture.

Timely – Set a deadline for when you should expect to accomplish the goal or goals you have set for yourself.

3. Content Implementation

How do you think of carrying out your content and marketing campaigns through social media? You have looked at your target demographic and through which channels to reach out to them.

Now let’s look at how you will carry out your content submissions that will attract the most attention:

  • What type of content will you use to convey your message? (ie. video, infographic, podcast, etc);
  • Figure out what time you should best post your content;
  • How often you should put out new content.

Keep those 3 things in mind whenever you are looking to put out new content for your followers to consume. Those 3 things will determine how and if you are able to get people to engage with you.

Avoid waiting too long between posting new content. Readers are actively looking for new posts and if you ever struggle to bring something forward, it can cost you dearly. Always stay engaged and consistent with your reader on all the social media platforms you decide to use.

4. Encourage Sharing

Important step at promoting your content and your business. This helps spread the word not only through your client base but your clients also help your marketing efforts when they do the sharing.

When pushing out content, don’t be afraid to actually ask for the people to share and like your creations. Asking people to share is actually proven to work incredibly well. In fact, it has generated over 216% increase in content interaction and shares than not asking anything from them.

Some companies incorporate incentives for sharing the content with others. This makes spreading the word that much more effective and your customers can get a bonus for doing you a much needed favor.

5. Track Your Efforts

Well after you have gone through all those steps, you need to be aware of how your efforts have panned out. Having analytic tools there to help you measure the effectiveness of your social media campaigns will pay off greatly.

Keeping tabs of reader interaction is essential. It will help you gauge which content works, what generates best reader engagement and if any of the changes you made are counterproductive to your marketing efforts.

You will save yourself and your company valuable time knowing what performs best and what you should change going forward.

Give It a Shot

Time for you to incorporate these strategies into how you approach social media – if you haven’t already.

Always keep an eye on your demographics and any potential trend changes. This might cause to adjust the way you approach social media marketing.

Nothing is ever carved in stone, especially when it comes to social media or other marketing channels. Play around with your strategy and keep these things into consideration to get the most out of your social media.
